Timothy Hanna
Chief

The Plum Borough School District would like to share with our families and the members of the community the depth of expertise that this administration utilized to thoroughly vette the candidates for the Chief of School District Police position. The interview team included members of the Superintendent’s Cabinet and multiple law enforcement experts that willingly gave up their time and shared decades of professional experience to assist the District in finding the most qualified candidate. Members of the interview panel included the Plum Borough Chief of Police, the Acting Assistant Agent in Charge of the Pittsburgh District Office of the Drug Enforcement Administration, and a City of Pittsburgh Detective who also served as a DEA Task Force Officer. The panel unanimously and without hesitation agreed that one candidate was by far the best person, and most qualified individual to lead the Plum School District Police Department. The Plum Borough School District proudly announced the appointment of Captain Timothy Hanna of the Mckeesport Police Department as its new Chief of School Police in September of 2018.

Chief Hanna is a 1986 graduate of McKeesport Area High School and is a 1991 graduate of Robert Morris University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He has received numerous Commendations for his work from supervisors and from former FBI Director Robert Mueller, Former Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett and Current Allegheny County Sheriff William Mullen.

Chief Hanna has been a part of numerous investigations involving outside law enforcement agencies including the Allegheny County Police Department, Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department, Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, United States Office of Inspector General, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Chief Hanna shares that he, “will strive to take every step to assure the safety and security of all students and staff in the Plum Borough School District.”

Hanna officially started with the Plum Borough School District on October 10, 2018.  Since that time, he has developed all policies and procedures for the School District Police Department.  The department has obtained an Originating Agency Identification (ORI) number.  This gives all members of the department the ability to use Allegheny County 911 emergency radios and channels, run names, dates of birth, wanted persons, missing persons, driver’s license information etc. through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) just as any Municipal or State Police Officer is able to do.  This ORI certification also permits officers to issue summary citations for violations of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code.  Hanna completed School Resource Officer Training (SRO) in June of 2019.
