Pennsylvania Public School Code, Article XIV, Section 1402 requires that students receive health screenings at certain grade levels. Please reach out to your child's school nurse if you object to your child having school health screenings
Vision
Annually, grades Kindergarten through 12
Hearing
Grades Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 7 and 11
Height and Weight (including calculation of Body Mass Index--information about BMI is available on the Wellness link to the left)
Annually, grades Kindergarten through 12
Scoliosis (abnormal curvature of the spine)
Grades 6 and 7
MANDATED EXAMS
Pennsylvania Public School Code, Article XIV, Section 1402 mandates that all students in Pennsylvania schools receive the following Medical Exams. Failure to submit a completed private dental or physical examination by the date the school physician/dentist is scheduled implies consent for a school examination.
Physical Exam:
Upon entering school for the first time (kindergarten or grade 1)
Grade 6
Grade 11
Preparation for a school physical exam will require the school nurse to obtain the student's growth, vision, and hearing assessments. Blood pressure and pulse will also be obtained.
