Section 504

Chapter 15: Services for Protected Handicapped Students

In compliance with state and federal law, the Plum Borough School District provides services or accommodations to protected handicapped students. These services ensure equal opportunity to participate in and obtain the benefits of the school program and extracurricular activities to the maximum extent appropriate to the student’s abilities. They are provided without discrimination or cost to the student or family. Accommodations provided to a student are outlined in a 504 Service Agreement or 504 Plan. A student with a 504 Plan is not a special education student.

To qualify for services as a “Protected Handicapped Student,” the child must be of school age and have a physical or mental disability that substantially limits or prohibits participation in or access to an aspect of the school program. Additional information on evaluation procedures and services for protected handicapped students can be obtained from the child’s school principal.

If you believe your child is in need of accommodations provided through a 504 Plan, please contact your child's principal for the Parent Request to Initiate, End, or Modify 504 Plan form. If your child is eligible for a 504 Plan, it will be created and shared with you for approval.

If your child already receives support from a 504 Plan and you wish to discontinue the plan or make revisions, please contact your child's principal for the Parent Request to Initiate, End, or Modify 504 Plan form.
