Drew Karpen
Athletic Director & Coordinator of Student Activities
Mr. Karpen comes to the district with a Masters's Degree in Sports Management and a Bachelor's
Degree in Mass Media Arts and Journalism. In his former post, he served as the Athletic Director and Transportation Director in the Highlands School District. Before joining Highlands School District, Mr. Karpen spent three years as an assistant in the Athletic Department in the North Allegheny School District.
Mr. Karpen is a well-respected member of the athletic community, having contributed significantly to the W.P.I.A.L., where he serves on the Baseball Committee and plays several roles within the Big 56 Conference. As an officer in the Northern Area Athletic Director Association, he is well-versed in the needs of today's student-athletes. Additionally, his expertise as an instructor in Human Kinetics Coach Education and Sports First Aid Education courses for coaches ensures that he is the ideal candidate to build on the traditions of Mustang athletics.
After honing his craft as a sports reporter with the Post-Gazette and Tribune-Review, Mr. Karpen pivoted toward working in public education. His roots in journalism continue to serve him well, as he uses his ties to media outlets to advocate for the best interest of student-athletes.
