G.A.T.E. (Gifted Program)

Gifted And Talented Enrichment (G.A.T.E.)

Mentally gifted is defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education as outstanding intellectual and creative ability, the development of which requires specially designed programs or support services, or both, not ordinarily provided in the regular education program.

Plum Borough provides specially designed programs for gifted students through its G.A.T.E. (Gifted and Talented Education) program. At Holiday Park, students who have been identified as gifted meet with Mrs. Morris for pull-out sessions weekly. Additionally, classroom enrichment activities are offered as needed.

To be eligible for the gifted program in Plum Borough, students are evaluated through a 3-leveled screening process. This screening includes current academic performance, standardized test scores, gifted matrix ratings, and intelligence testing. Students may be referred for screening by the classroom teacher, a parent, or by the students themselves (when older). If you are interested in finding out more about the GATE program, please contact Mrs. Morris.
