PSHS Teacher Wins Carnegie Science Award

PLUM SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL  |  ONE MINUTE READ

Plum Senior High School Computer Science teacher, Mrs. Tamar McPherson, will be recognized at this year’s Carnegie Science Awards. The ceremony will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2020.

The Carnegie Science Awards program applauds and celebrates innovators who are making tremendous contributions to science and technology in western Pennsylvania. In Mrs. McPherson’s words, “The award is acknowledgement of the work I’ve been doing for the past 17 years—helping students and teachers build confidence in STEM.”

Mrs. McPherson has always been a proponent of students following their passion and finding out a way to do what they love. She believes the road to success and happiness is never a straight path. She believes you have to seize opportunities as they come or create them when they don't exist.

Tamar was nominated by Mrs. Colleen Smith of ABC Create.

Mrs. McPherson says, “I don't expect all of my students to become computer scientists or engineers when they grow up; I just want to open as many doors for them as possible.”
