PBSD Partners with Plum EMS Supporting Local Children

PLUM SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL   |  ONE-MINUTE READ

Plum Borough School District has been a longtime supporter of the “Toys for Tots” Stuff-A-Bus program, an initiative for underprivileged children in the community. This year, the District and Plum Emergency Medical Services (EMS) worked together to reach more children with gifts for Christmas.

Plum EMS partnered with Plum Boro, Plum Police Department, several Plum Fire Departments, employees at Concordia at Ridgewood, and personnel from Hanna Health Care Center (Longwood and Oakmont) to make a large donation to the Plum Senior High School (PSHS) sixth annual “Toys for Tots” toy drive. A vehicle from each participating department brought a gift-filled ambulance to the high school, donating all collected toys and stuffing the bus.

Mrs. Shari Klein, an administrative assistant at Plum Senior High School, started the program six years ago because she felt "Toys for Tots" could benefit children and support the community.

The set-up included holiday banners, signs and drop-off boxes for the public to deposit their toy donations. The Plum Mustang made an appearance sporting his antlers while masked toy collectors dressed in festive holiday attire made sure the night was full of holiday cheer. Plum Borough School District teachers, staffers, administrators, and the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps members helped make sure the night was a success. Community partners included Home Depot and Lowe’s, and the Stanford Home Center donated inflatable fissures and lights to decorate the school bus.

Mrs. Klein said, “I’m so grateful for our local essential workers and first responders who are taking time out of their busy day to help put a smile on the faces of underprivileged children. I’m also very proud of our community and how they’ve been such an integral part of this event.”
