HOLIDAY PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL | ONE-MINUTE READ
As a child, do you remember thinking about what you wanted to be when you grew up? Are you in the career now that you thought you would be in back then? Career Days have been a long-time tradition that helps improve students’ academic performance, clarify their skills and interests, and promote positive career attitudes.
On May 5, Holiday Park Elementary School hosted its first live and virtual Career Day with the help of community volunteers. Students spent the day learning what it’s like to be a Real Estate Agent, a Vocational Rehab Counselor, a Technical Writer, and a Deputy Superintendent, among others. Presenters shared their favorite subjects in school, current job responsibilities, described a day in the life of their job and the skills they use everyday, and what they like most about their job, and more.
Mrs. Jena Nese, Guidance Counselor at Holiday Park Elementary School, “Hands-On careers are really important because not all kids go to college so it’s important to understand where they can put their talents outside of the ones shared at school and at home. Knowing their passions now, can help them discover potential careers and see what develops for them over time. To light a spark in a child is priceless. I hope we were able to accomplish that with career day.”
