Plum Athletics Make Multiple Wins

PLUM BOROUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT  |  ONE-MINUTE READ

Plum Athletics had a very successful fall season in four sports: football, boys soccer, girls soccer, and volleyball. Teams were winning week after week, setting district records for the number of teams on the road to championship seasons.

Plum Varsity football captured their first conference champion this year. This hasn’t been achieved since 1983. The WPIAL boys soccer postseason took a halt at the WPIAL semifinals. The Plum Lady Mustangs Girls Soccer went to the WPIALs finals for the second year in a row. And the Plum Lady Girls Volleyball fought hard to make it to the WPIAL semifinals, making noise in the postseason.

Mr. Josh Shoop has served as Plum Athletics Director for 19 years and two years at Plum. This year, like all school districts across the country, teams have had to power through unprecedented challenges in planning, operations and logistics. But, he said, everyone, from students, staff, parents and boosters, did their part to deliver a successful fall season and memorable experiences.

Hard work, preparation, persistence, and resilience have been the winning combination for these teams to be successful. It has also taken very specific planning as well. It all wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Plum Borough School District staff for everyone has gone above and beyond to make the fall season happen, Shoop said.

“The attendance restrictions have been difficult on the entire community,” he said. “I feel very badly for the general population of students at Plum who have not had many opportunities to see their peers compete in person, but I am very thankful that we have been able to stream so many events for the community to be able to watch these events. This has been accomplished by the Plum TV Production team and Plum IT as well as some other outlets.”

A special thanks goes out to the District’s outstanding coaches, student athletes, and families.
