Senior High Science Olympiad Headed to State Competition

Plum Senior High School Science Olympiads ranked 7 out of 25 schools in the northwest region in this year’s competition held in late March. The state of Pennsylvania has 125 schools and Plum Senior High School is currently positioned at 48, and is on its way to state finals on April 17, 2021! The Pennsylvania Science Olympiad (PASO) helps enhance science education in grades K-12 with learning and regional and state tournaments. Over 8,000 students and 800 teachers from 300 middle and high schools participate in PASO activities that are based on PA Science Standards and National Science Education Standards. Plum Senior High School students in grades 9-12 received a glimpse of the wide array of sciences, from life, personal, social science, earth and space and more, while showing their competitive spirit, leadership, and academic growth. All teams coordinated their work online and each competitor participated in project-based events at home instead of on teams. Dr. Shubhada Bhamre, Science Teacher and Olympiad sponsor, says, “To be a leader by believing and trusting your students and providing them with the tools to grow and achieve tasks outside their realm and see them push through and come out saying ‘We did it!’ is the most exhilarating experience.” For more information on the Science Olympiad, visit www.pascioly.org.
