PLUM BOROUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT  |  ONE MINUTE READ

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), hungry students are more likely to earn lower grades, have higher rates of absenteeism, repeat a grade, and lose focus when compared to other students. The Plum Borough School District addresses this disparity by providing grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches for students and the community.

As requests for these meals grow, the community has been extremely supportive and appreciative of this District resource. In fact, when Mrs. Jessica Griggle, Director of Food Services, reported to work one morning, she said the sidewalks were filled with thank you messages. In turn, the Food Services department inserts small surprises such as pencils, stickers, school supplies, and items in students’ bags to help keep their spirits up. Knowing the students are going to be surprised and appreciative keeps the department's spirits up as well.

Dolores Stuckert, Cook Manager at Holiday Park and Oblock, says, “I am proud to be a Plum Food Service Worker and to provide meals to the students of plum even in these trying times.”

Meals will be available at two locations on either side of the District; Holiday Park (entrance 4) and Plum High School (cafeteria entrance). Breakfast is available from 8:00-9:00 a.m and lunch will be available from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m Monday through Friday.

I would like to express my most sincere appreciation to the dedicated and truly amazing staff who have been committed to providing meals to the students of our school community.  They are truly heroes on the frontline, reporting into school every day to ensure our students receive a healthy meal during this critical time.  Additionally, I would like to extend my gratitude to the overwhelming support from our Administration and community members.  I am honored to be part of the Plum Borough School District team and feel blessed to be in a position to help provide for our Plum families. — Mrs. Jessica Griggle
