Parent Focus: Conversation and Conflict



On April 29, Dr. Eran Magen delivered the presentation, “More Conversation, Less Conflict,” to families across the District. The virtual session shared conflict-free techniques to help parents motivate their children with better cooperation. It provided techniques to reduce parent stress while helping them work with their child to make the best personal, social and academic choices.   According to Dr. Boyers, Principal of Oblock Junior High School, “At times, balancing parenting and establishing stronger relationships with your children can be a daunting task. The COVID-19 pandemic turned lives upside down and presented many new challenges. Dr. Magen provided a well-received solution for parents.”   Based on the Q&A, Dr. Magen compiled the following list of recommended books to help parents on their journey of supporting their children:: “Don’t Shoot the Dog,” by Karen Pryor, “The Body Keeps the Score,” by Bessel van der Kolk M.D., and “Atomic Habits,” by James Clear.   Dr. Magen earned his Master’s Degree in Education and the Ph.D. in Psychology from Stanford University.
