Plum Graduate Sets Standard in National Expo

PLUM BOROUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT   |  ONE-MINUTE READ

Plum graduate, Melissa Reynolds, has set the standard, winning the 2020 Kohl's Sophomore Career ExpoMaking the most of the quarantine and redefining an entire women’s undergarment collection, this alumna walked away with more than an opportunity of a lifetime.

The 2020 expo took place virtually. Reynolds attended the expo and landed a first-round interview for an internship with the retail giant. She impressed the interviewers, moving onto the final round where she completed a strategy project  on diversity and inclusion. Her project landed her the highly sought after merchandising internship.

Melissa Reynolds created “Redefining Nude Collection” by Kohl’s because, she said, “the color nude is often thought of as the light peach shade that resembles the skin of a white person. For years, people of color have had the disadvantage when searching for bras that match their skin tone.” .

Reynold’s collection has five  bra styles and mastectomy recovery bra inserts, including everyday, full coverage, mastectomy recovery and breastfeeding bras. Sizes range from 30A through 46DDD and are available in nine different shades.

The Kohl’s career expo is offered each spring and is  open to undergraduate sophomores pursuing careers in retail. The program helps fashion students find a path that is right for them and develop their passion. Those who are accepted into the program spend an entire day learning about Kohl’s from a corporate perspective and given information about internship opportunities.
