Nursing Services Working Non-stop to Keep Us Safe

PLUM BOROUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT  |  ONE-MINUTE READ  |  [email protected]

Plum Borough School District nurses work non-stop to keep us safe every day. The men and women that keep Nursing Services running are first responders for District students and staff, advising, managing, and literally holding the hands of our children. They deliver care and support to all the district’s children without fanfare, flying under the radar to fight unseen battles.

Department Lead, Mrs. Lisa Pace, RN, has been a nurse in the District for 25 years. She, as all our Certified School Nurses, ensure that individualized medical care is provided for students with medical needs and puts measures in place to protect  students with life-threatening allergies and other conditions, allowing them to fully participate in the educational process.

School nurses are advocates for all students. They administer medications, check for vaccinations, educate, perform screenings, and assist with exams. They collaborate with parents, healthcare providers, and district staff to provide the appropriate accommodations for students for school success.

The department immediately responded to COVID-19 by outlining a new nursing procedure plan, creating isolation areas in their offices, and updating Sick Day Guidelines to align themselves with the PA Department of Health. Nurses monitor, remind, and educate the school and community to secure adherence to best practices as suggested by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). They also update school guidelines as new information is communicated from the governing health agencies. District nurses work closely with and use the Allegheny County Health Department as a resource for any questions or concerns about each COVID-19 incident that impacts the District. Plum nurses are diligent to follow the guidelines put forth by the PA Department of Health and the CDC.

Mrs. Pace says, “We love taking care of our students to help them succeed in school. There’s nothing better than seeing their smiles.

The District employs four Certified School Nurses who split their time between buildings. They include Mrs. Lisa Pace BSN,RN,CSN; Mrs. Lindsay Klipa, BSN,RN, CSN; Mrs. Tina Jagodzinski, BSN,RN, CSN; and Mrs. Donna Murphy, BSN,RN, CSN. Special thanks to all our certified school nurses and staff nurses for continually making adjustmentsCS under the pandemic to serve our students during this stressful time.
