Food Services Delivers More Than Just Meals

PLUM BOROUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT   |  ONE-MINUTE READ

Plum Borough School District’s Food Services Department can always be counted on to graciously extend its hand of kindness to others in need. The department helped all students in our community in need of food security by offering a meal delivery service in response to the District’s decision to go fully remote.

The meal delivery service provides individually-wrapped, frozen meals and food items that were secured through the use of a weekly family survey and delivered to bus stops throughout the community. Five breakfasts and five lunches per child were packaged with assorted breakfast items such as breakfast bars and boxed cereal were served in the mornings. Frozen pizza, chicken patties, and grilled cheese sandwiches along with fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables were served for lunch. Meals included drinks such as milk and juice. These meals met nutrition standards and were tasty, too!

Mrs. Jessica Griggle, Food Services Director, said she was “grateful that we were able to provide additional services to our families during this pandemic.”

Not only did our bus drivers, custodial staff, and food services teams work together to support the Plum community, they delivered this much-needed resource cheerfully and on time. Selma Coury, School Bus Driver, said, “It was a wonderful experience and honor driving the school bus to deliver the meals to our Plum School District students, bringing hope to a community that stands together! Families may have received meals, but we received the gift of kindness, hope, and humanity.”
