School Social Work Hires Add Value at Right Time



Plum Borough School District welcomes two new District School Social Workers/Home School Visitors, Ms. Eliana Jorgensen and Ms. Bess Milch, who will deliver critical support services to help strengthen the connection between the home and the community. Jorgensen and Milch join an interdisciplinary team that supports students experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral issues including homelessness and food insecurity.                      Ms. Eliana Jorgensen  Ms. Bess Milch  Ms. Eliana Jorgensen (B.A., Ithaca College; M.S.W., University of Pittsburgh), who will work with students and families at Plum Senior High School and Oblock Junior High School, began her career as a school social worker at the Intermediate Unit 1 Educational Campus at Colonial. She spent four years at Ambridge Area School District as an elementary school social worker where she helped cultivate a culture that celebrated diversity and offered a safe space for all students.  Ms. Bess Milch (B.A., Chatham University; M.S.W., University of PIttsburgh; Certified Mental Health First Aid trainer) has seven years of experience working in schools in Pittsburgh, and for the past five years, she provided prevention education lessons for Pittsburgh Public Schools (grades K-8). Using evidence-based curriculums, she helped students learn important skills such as recognizing and managing emotions, setting goals, and managing stress. At UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital, she delivered training on the Student Assistance Program (SAP) and helped raise mental health awareness.
