Title IX
On June 23, 1972, the President signed Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 20 U.S.C. A§1681 et seq., into law. Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. The principal objective of Title IX is to avoid the use of federal money to support sex discrimination in education programs and to provide individual citizens effective protection against those practices. Title IX applies to institutions that receive federal financial assistance from the US Department of Education, including state and local educational agencies. These agencies include approximately 16,500 local school districts, 7,000 postsecondary institutions, as well as charter schools, for-profit schools, libraries, and museums. Also included are vocational rehabilitation agencies and education agencies of 50 states, the District of Columbia, and territories and possessions of the United States. Educational programs and activities that receive US Department of Education funds must operate in a nondiscriminatory manner. Some key issue areas in which recipients have Title IX obligations are: recruitment, admissions, and counseling; financial assistance; athletics; sex-based harassment; treatment of pregnant and parenting students; discipline; single-sex education; and employment. Also, a recipient may not retaliate against any person for opposing an unlawful educational practice or policy, or made charges, testified or participated in any complaint action under Title IX. For a recipient to retaliate in any way is considered a violation of Title IX. Title IX applies Athletics, Access to Higher Education, Career Education, Education for Pregnant and Parenting Students, Employment, Learning Environment, Math and Science, Sexual Harassment, Standardized Testing and Technology.

The Plum Borough School District is in full compliance with Title IX legislation. Our goal is to implement an intentional and purposeful Title IX program that is fully compliant with all federal standards and to ensure gender equity in an environment free from harassment. Our multi-tiered plan includes policy development, reporting violations and misconduct, and training and education for adults and students. Title IX - Email Report Form Access
The Plum Borough School District is committed to providing an environment free from discrimination based on sex and provides a variety of resources to assist students, faculty, staff, and volunteers in addressing issues involving sex discrimination, harassment and violence. If you feel that you have been discriminated against or harassed in any way, please click here to submit a report form, via email, to our designated Title IX Compliance Officer. Messages can be left 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Furthermore, we ask each user to utilize the Plum Borough School District’s Title IX Report Form responsibly.
