SICK DAY GUIDELINES

Making the Right Call When Your Child is Sick:

A child should stay home if he or she:

  • Has a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher

  • Has been vomiting or has diarrhea

  • Has just been diagnosed with an illness such as Strep Throat or Pink Eye, etc.

  • Has severe symptoms that prevent participation in school, such as-

~ Frequent uncontrollable coughing & sneezing

~ Very tired, or lack of appetite

~ Headache, body aches, earaches, severe sore throat

(Keeping your child home when he or she has severe symptoms will help to decrease the spread of illness to others)

A child may return using the 24 hour rule:

  • Fever is gone for 24 hours (without using Fever reducing medication such as Tylenol or Motrin/ Ibuprofen)

  • 24 Hours have passed since the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea

  • After a full 24 hours from the first dose of an antibiotic for a bacterial infection

  • When severe symptoms have subsided and the student is able to participate in school
