PlumIS - December 2020

It’s that time of year again! Shorter days and colder temperatures are typical weather patterns for late fall and winter in our region of the world. The awareness that they will come each year doesn’t make it any easier to navigate, especially with the stressful year. We have been barraged by political discord, cultural clashes, civil unrest, and a pandemic that doesn’t seem to be losing its grip on our families and our communities. 

Plum Senior High School students launch “The Fall Monologue Project,” an innovative way for them to share their artistic talents with a virtual teaching and coaching model, allowing for the exploration of relevant material.

Grammy-nominated fiddle player, Ryan Joseph, held a Q&A session with Holiday Park Elementary School students at a virtual strings camp on Friday, December 11. Ryan, who plays for Alan Jackson’s Country Band is a Commercial and Classical Violin Professor at Belmont University and Bluegrass Ensemble Director. He grew up locally and attended McKeesport School District and obtained a Music Education degree from Duquesne University.

Plum Borough School District has been a longtime supporter of the “Toys for Tots” Stuff-A-Bus program, an initiative for underprivileged children in the community. This year, the District and Plum Emergency Medical Services (EMS) worked together to reach more children with gifts for Christmas.
