An evaluation determines whether a student has a disability and requires specially designed instruction. Evaluations are conducted by a multidisciplinary team and may include assessments of academic skills, cognitive functioning, behavior, communication, and other areas related to the student’s educational needs. Parents are important members of the evaluation team and must provide consent before an evaluation begins.
