This page provides families and community members with clear information about Artificial Intelligence (AI), how it may be used in learning, and how we can partner together to ensure AI is used responsibly, safely, and ethically.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to computer systems that can perform tasks that typically require human thinking, such as recognizing patterns, summarizing information, generating text, translating languages, or answering questions. AI tools, including “generative AI” like ChatGPT, do not “think” like people. Instead, they predict and generate responses based on patterns using large sets of information. AI can be helpful for learning, creativity, and productivity. AI can also make mistakes, provide incomplete information, or reflect bias.

 | During the 2024–25 school year, the Plum Borough School District Artificial Intelligence Core Team explored how AI is shaping teaching and learning. The team hosted listening sessions with students and staff, reviewed how other school districts are integrating AI, and examined tools that may support instruction and learning. Our findings confirmed that AI is rapidly expanding in post-secondary education, the workforce, and everyday technology. To prepare students for this reality, the district is committed to building AI understanding and responsible use while protecting privacy, ensuring academic integrity, and supporting ethical decision-making. As a result, we established a common language for AI use across K–12 classrooms, adopted a policy to guide integration, and added expectations for ethical AI use to the Code of Conduct.
