Bus Safety Concern

IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ

Please let this message serve as an informational item and notice of concern.

A bill was passed during the 2001 General Assembly session to clarify and strengthen the law pertaining to persons who interfere with the operation of public school buses.  Section 1. G.S. 14-132-2 addresses willful trespassing upon, damaging, or impeding the progress of a public school bus.  Specifically, section (b) reads, “Any person who shall enter a public school bus or public school activity bus without prior authorization of the driver or school official shall be guilty of a Misdemeanor of the Third Degree.”  Furthermore, all infractions of this nature must, and will be, reported to the School Resource Officer(s) or other appropriate law enforcement agents.

It is unfortunate that we live in such times of heightened security and awareness, but it’s a necessary concern for the safety and well-being of our students.  It is imperative and necessary to follow the appropriate protocols established in our school system for safety and security issues and to abide by all laws governing us.  Thank you!
